June 2026 has been an extraordinary month for the Yapiri Project. Within the span of a few weeks, two things happened that I did not expect to happen so close together — and together they represent something much larger than either achievement alone.

Milestone One: UCSUR Registration

On June 18, 2026, Rebecca Bettencourt — the maintainer of the Under-ConScript Unicode Registry (UCSUR) — confirmed that Yapiri Script had been officially registered. The assigned block is U+F1CA0 to U+F1CFF, a 96-codepoint range in the Unicode Private Use Area on Plane 15.

What does UCSUR registration actually mean? For any constructed or community script, the UCSUR is the closest thing that exists to a formal codepoint authority. It means that Yapiri's characters now have stable, universally agreed-upon addresses in the digital space. Fonts, keyboards, software, and databases can all implement Yapiri using the same codepoints — without conflict, without ambiguity, and without the risk of collisions with other scripts sharing the same PUA range.

For a language like Kokborok, which has existed in the digital world largely through borrowed scripts, this is a meaningful structural shift. Yapiri Script now has its own digital home.

Milestone Two: Omniglot Listing

Shortly after the UCSUR registration, I submitted Yapiri Script to Simon Ager at Omniglot.com — one of the world's most respected and widely referenced databases of writing systems and languages. Simon published the page almost immediately.

Omniglot is not just a hobbyist reference. It is cited by linguists, referenced by universities, and visited by hundreds of thousands of people who are genuinely curious about the world's languages and scripts. For Kokborok — the language of the Tiprasa people of Tripura — to have a dedicated page there means that anyone in the world searching for information about our language's writing systems will find it.

That is not a small thing. That is visibility we have never had before.

What These Two Things Mean Together

Taken separately, each milestone is significant. Taken together, they mark a turning point. Yapiri Script now exists in two of the most important reference systems for writing systems in the world — one technical, one cultural. The UCSUR gives Yapiri a stable digital identity. Omniglot gives it a global audience.

When someone encounters Yapiri Script through Omniglot and wants to implement it in software, the UCSUR registration gives them the exact codepoints to use. These two things were always meant to work together — and now they do.

The Road Ahead

These milestones are not the destination — they are the foundation. The Yapiri Project is still in its early chapters. Here is what comes next:

  • Yapiri Dictionary — We have 364 entries across six semantic clusters. The next phase expands into 330 more terms across 15 domains, building toward a comprehensive Kokborok lexical resource.
  • Corpus expansion — Our sentence pair collection stands at 880. The target is 10,000. The next 500 pairs will focus on Tripura-specific domains — flora, fauna, geography, and cultural life.
  • Wikipedia presence — A planned edit to the existing Kokborok Wikipedia article will bring Yapiri Script into one of the world's most-read reference platforms.
  • Yapiri AI — The long-term vision is a Kokborok language AI built on verified, community-curated data. The corpus and dictionary we are building now are the data layer that makes this possible.
  • Yapiri Project mothership — yapiriproject.com will serve as the umbrella platform for all subsidiaries: Education, Dictionary, Literature, Translator, Encyclopedia, and more.

The Tiprasa people have a living language with deep roots and an unbroken oral tradition. What we are building now is the digital infrastructure that ensures that language can survive and thrive in a world that increasingly exists on screens. Every codepoint registered, every word documented, every sentence pair added to the corpus — it all serves that one purpose.
